About This Event

Ever wondered about the history of the granite trough on Lauriston Road in Victoria Park Village? Come along and find out more by participating in this free event offered by the Hackney Society Building at Risk Group, which will document the present condition of the trough in order to support its forthcoming nomination for local heritage listing by Hackney Borough Council.

The event will begin with a short introductory talk, explaining how the recording will be done, as well some key information about the work of the Hackney Society, the history of roadside drinking troughs, and local heritage listing.

The recording work will be a collective effort involving visual observations, measurements, photography and note-taking. No expertise is required, only enthusiasm!

Once the recording is complete, a short guided tour (estimated duration 30-45 minutes) will be offered, heading into Victoria Park to look at a series of interesting heritage features that once stood within or on the boundary of Hackney borough, before returning to where the event started (with the option to move on to a nearby cafe or pub afterwards). Please be advised the route of the tour, which is no more than a mile in length, is mostly on pavements and metalled paths but will include some sections walking on grass that may be wet and muddy in mid-October.

This is the second in a series of events taking place as part of a project to document all four of Hackney's historic drinking troughs that currently have no form of heritage listing.
