Hackney Society: De Beauvoir Road Drinking Trough Recording and Guided Tour

About This Event

Ever wondered about the history of the granite trough towards the northern end of De Beauvoir Road? Then come along and find out more by participating in this free event offered by the Hackney Society Building at Risk Group, which will document the present condition of the trough in order to support its forthcoming nomination for local heritage listing by Hackney Borough Council.

The event will begin with a short introductory talk, explaining how the recording will be done, as well some key information about the work of the Hackney Society, the history of roadside drinking troughs, and local heritage listing.

The recording work will be a collective effort involving visual observations, measurements, photography and note-taking. No expertise is required, only enthusiasm!

Once the recording is complete, a short guided tour (estimated duration 30 minutes) will be offered of some of the interesting heritage features in the area between the trough and Dalston Junction, where it is anticipated the event will finish around midday. The route of the tour is under a mile in length and is on pavements and metalled paths, crossing several minor roads along the way (at drop kerbs wherever possible).

This is the first of a series of events taking place as part of a project to document all four of Hackney's historic drinking troughs that currently have no form of heritage listing.
