Carnival Through The Eyes Of Windrush + Q&A

Come along to the Rio Cinema to see Rena Kydd-Williams documentary focusing on elder pioneers of carnival.

About This Event

Rena Kydd-Williams, a carnivalist, project manager for 2 carnival groups and community activist, was desperately aware of the loss of our elders and pioneers. She felt it imperative to obtain oral histories of the memories of carnivals in various Caribbean Islands with a comparison to UK carnivals post arrival. The aim was to create a documentary that would be a lasting testimony as well as an educative repository for our younger carnivalists, mas makers and those who are not familiar with the roots of Carnival. The documentary explores the recollections of Playing Mas /Carnival and the traditional carnival characters unique to the Islands of Barbados, Jamaica, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago and Antigua.
