The Blessing: Hackney Empire's Windrush Community Project

About This Event
Hackney Empire are bringing young people of Caribbean heritage together with their elders to share stories of the Windrush generation, and to celebrate how that generation has shaped our community. You may wish to share your own story, or that of family members. Hackney Empire's young people are excited to learn about their elders and the stories, culture and moments that have shaped the Hackney they know today.
This project is part of Hackney Empire's forthcoming project, The Blessing. The Blessing will mark Windrush Day and the end of Refugee Week 2025, and will be a joyful show that will celebrate community and welcome. We will shine a light on the Windrush stories that have shaped Hackney, and we will celebrate the people that have sought home and refuge here.
You can find out more about The Blessing here. In short, it will be a Caribbean blessing for Hackney, featuring drumming, spoken word, steel pan and singing. The show will finish with our choir, taking the stage alongside an exciting lineup of musical headliners to fill the theatre with rhythm and joy. It will be in partnership with Counterpoints Arts, and Rising Tide.

Hackney Empire is fully accessible. Please note, the storytelling and sharing element of the project is primarily aimed at members of Caribbean heritage. There are upcoming session coming up that will be open to all members. If you would like to be part of this project, but are not available on the 10th May, please let us know because there will be other opportunities to get involved.
