Walks of Interest: Shoreditch Reverting to Type

Take a moderate walk through Shoreditch, which was once the home of commercial printing.
About This Event
Shoreditch's location near the City of London made it ideal for producing banknotes, chequebooks, share certificates, stamps, rail tickets and later ration books and wartime propaganda. Some printers’ buildings remain, still showing the security measures needed for their work. Hear about the 17th-century female printer, Guernsey’s Thomas De La Rue (whose company still prints banknotes) and the ‘banging out’ tradition in the printing trade.
Walks of Interest are moderately paced walks up 2 hours in duration and incorporate periods of standing.
Sessions must be booked in advance and we do not accept same-day bookings. Waiting lists will be created as if needed. Priority is given to Hackney residents or those registered to a Hackney based GP surgery.
