About This Event

On the 23rd January 1909 two Latvian anarchists carried out a payroll robbery in Tottenham. It led to a two-hour pursuit across the Walthamstow Marshes, 600 bullets being fired, four deaths and chases by horse and tramcar. It was made into a film within a few years and later inspired Alfred Hitchcock, who went to school in Stamford Hill.

The talk will centre on one of Abney's finest memorials, to discuss the Outrage and its roots in the area, as well as its influence on local resident Joseph Conrad and the links to the Siege of Sidney Street.
